India’s latest cricketing sensation and current captain of India’s U-19 team for ICC U-19 World Cup Prithvi Shaw has signed a multiyear bat sponsorship deal with MRF.
In the past, MRF had signed similar deals with Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara and Steve Waugh. Currently, it has existing deals with Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and AB de Villiers.
The 18-year-old right-hand batsman Shaw is often touted as India’s next Tendulkar. Lately, he has been in great form and has hit five centuries in his first seven first-class matches.
The Mumbai-boy first broke into the limelight in November 2013 after smashing 546 runs (in 330 balls) in a Harris Shield match, thus achieving the highest score ever by a batsman in Indian school cricket and 4th Highest by any batsman in any form of competitive game in history.
Shaw is managed by India’s leading sports marketing firm, Baseline Ventures.
KM Mammen, CMD, MRF, said, “MRF has always stood for excellence in sports. Having been associated with sports for decades we have always come forward to nurture special talents and provide all assistance for them to flower on the International stage. Our brand ambassadors have always shone in their careers and have enthralled audiences across the globe. We are delighted to be a part of Prithvi’s cricket journey and am sure his special talents will hold everyone spellbound in the coming years. We wish him all the very best and welcome him to the MRF family.”
Shaw added, ” I’m honoured and humbled to be playing soon with a MRF bat as I have grown up watching my idols like Sachin sir, Brian Lara sir and now Virat sir playing with them and scoring tons of runs and bringing laurels for our country.”
Tuhin Mishra, group MD, Baseline Ventures, said, “We are very happy to have MRF come on board of this amazing talent, Prithvi Shaw who is creating wonders on the cricketing field. MRF with such a strong lineage in sports will be a great asset for Prithvi going forward and we wish for a long successful association between MRF and Prithvi Shaw.”
